SUMMARY:World Migratory Bird Day
DESCRIPTION:Saturday May 14th is World Migratory Bird Day! The overall mission of World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is to raise awareness of migratory birds and issues related to their conservation. The campaign highlights the importance of international cooperation and encourages national and local action to protect migratory birds. The 2022 campaign theme\, Light Pollution\, is designed to increase awareness about the negative effects light pollution has on migrating birds\, their behavior and activity levels. The campaign will be used to highlight actions that can be taken by a wider range of actors including individuals to reduce light pollution. The easiest way for you to reduce light pollution is to turn off or dim your outdoor lights in the evenings- start tonight!!\n\nRead more about this global event organized by Environment of the Americas on the World Migratory Bird Day website or click here to read about their 2022 Campaign Strategy!

SUMMARY:Ask the Experts - How to Attract Wood Ducks
DESCRIPTION:Meet your experts: Bob and Donna McFarland\n\n\n\nBob and Donna McFarland moved from the big city life in Houston\, Texas to the small town rural life in Mount Vernon\, Texas in 2007. They built a lake to grow bass but soon discovered it was an attraction to all types of wildlife\, including ducks. After researching that wood ducks were cavity nesters they installed the first duck box on their lake and the wood duck adventure took off from there. They now monitor 12 wood duck boxes in total and have spent the last 12 years as stewards of lots of baby ducks. Included in their journey has been the opportunity to raise over 70 orphaned baby ducks through the monitoring of their duck nest boxes. In addition\, they have donated and installed 146 duck boxes\, pro-bono\, for friends and neighbors in Upper East Texas where they reside.\n\n\n\nBob and Donna are joining Bird Man Mel on Facebook Live at 8 pm CDT on Tuesday\, May 26th\, As always – Bird Man Mel is giving away some BIG prizes!\n\nView the event here: https://bit.ly/WoodDucksAsk
